XPO-LPO Optical Transceiver

12.8 Tb/s Linear Pluggable Optics for AI Scale-Up

XPO-LPO addresses the power and density wall that conventional OSFP form factors cannot cross. Sixty-four high-speed lanes at 224 Gb/s each deliver 12.8 Tb/s from a single module over a standard MPO optical interface, with liquid cooling designed in for hyperscale AI clusters.

  • Bandwidth: 12.8 Tb/s aggregate, 64 lanes at 224 Gb/s per lane
  • Power: 80 W total, best-in-class power per bit
  • Latency: lowest available in a pluggable solution, enabling scale-up
  • Thermal: engineered for liquid cooling in next-generation racks
  • Optical interface: standard MPO
  • Compliance: XPO Module Specifications, OIF-CMIS, RoHS

Frequently Asked Questions

LPO removes the DSP from the optical module and drives the link linearly from the host ASIC. That cuts power and latency, which is what limits how far an AI fabric can scale. An XPO-LPO module delivers 12.8 Tb/s for 80 W total, and Amphenol’s 800G OSFP LPO modules run under 8.5 W, typically 7.5 W.

XPO-LPO addresses the power and density wall that traditional OSFP form factors cannot cross. It carries 64 high-speed lanes at 224 Gb/s each — 12.8 Tb/s from one module against 800 Gb/s to 1.6 Tb/s from an OSFP module — and is engineered for liquid cooling rather than air.

Data rates from 12G to 1.6T, supporting Ethernet, Fibre Channel, InfiniBand, SAS, PCIe and CPRI. Optical reach options span SR, LR, ER and ZR, from 100 m to 120 km, using BIDI, DWDM, LWDM and tunable CWDM technologies.

Copper is the cheaper, lower-power choice at short reach — 112G passive assemblies run to about 2 m and active to about 4 m. Beyond that, active optical cables carry the link: 100 m over multimode fiber for both the 100G QSFP28 and 200G QSFP-DD AOCs, at low weight and low power.

Yes. The OSFP-RHS 224G cold plate and cage assembly integrates cold plates into the cage itself, dissipating more than 40 W per module across up to 16 ports in series. XPO-LPO is likewise engineered for liquid cooling in hyperscale AI racks.

Yes — that vertical integration is the point. Front panel I/O connectors and cages, bulk cable design and manufacturing, passive and active I/O cable assemblies, AOCs and transceivers all come from one supplier, so the whole signal path is qualified together.

Yes. Whether the requirement is an industry standard part or an application specific design, Amphenol’s engineering teams support custom configurations, lengths and terminations. Contact us with your requirements.
